That's right folks.
I went to Judo today. I got a promotion to...sankyu. Which is a green belt. From orange. I'm the fastest guy my teacher ever promoted, he said.
My trick? Easy peasy. My session in college was light, I'm too much of a nerd to run after girls, and I'm a little bored of my games. So for college I had nothing to do but review techniques, watch videos, buy these rubber bands that people use to stretch, nail 'em to a tree, and practice throw entries since I gave the tree rubber arms (and the occasional homework-that-counts, I never bother with those that don't).
I estimate I have been doing something related to Judo around 5 hours per day, every day.
So I have a new color belt tied to my waist and I'm a sexy devil with my green. Pics coming up Friday.
I love you guys. And do try Judo. It is a wonderful combat sport/martial art, plus it fits well with the weeaboos.

Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.
You know, like nunchuku skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills, judo skills...
How many belts you got left to go?

Blue, brown, black.
I estimate I'll spend ~4-6 months or so at green, ~a year at blue (the last set of techniques is finicky and you start to brush up on the whole 67 throws), at least two years/two and a half at brown (learning the kata I need for promotion, racking up competition points (although I'll start that at green, this year), brushing up technique to a decent standpoint) before black. Meaning I'm about 3-4 years still away from black.
I like that in my art black belts still mean something. BJJ's the same too, although it takes even longer.
Getting to green is the easy part. It's like learning the alphabet - after that you learn to write coherent sentances with all the grammar that applies.

sounds like you have your work cut out for you, i would be careful though - building up too much of an ego can really hurt your social skills. i mean, how self confident can you get? anyone who can say they can achieve black belt anything is a league above most peoples standards. at least, i think so. just saying. in any case, keep us posted dude!

i 'like' how all those management training programs borrowed the martial arts belt terminology to apply to graduates of their own mini-business programs.
these management types are walking around saying "i'm a black belt in conflict negotiation... how about you?"
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=sigma+%...=g2&=Googlei mean, it makes sense to
some degree.
but...

No ego. Just discipline and perseverance, and practice practice practice.

did i tell you i've been doing judo? i stopped for the week or two because i rolled my ankle, but judo has been fun. the level at my university club team is so-so. a lot of former wrestlers do it, so that raises the skill level a bit ;). but yea, i'm a white belt and i can't get the terms down... but it's fun!

Buy a book and just read it when you have free time. It'll help with the Japanese stuff.
What's your favourite throw? I'm an uchi-mata fanboy myself...I like to combo it with either o-guruma or o-uchi-gari.

probably the arm throw lol.
and na i got other stuff to worry about besides judo terms haha.
i still wrestle, so my free time is dedicated to that. but i like your dedication to judo, i'm sure you are a great judokan! dummies, or even fake dummies, are great way to practice & refine technique. keep it up mayne.

If I weren't in Canada I would've probably wrestled in grade school.
But we in Québec/Canada don't have the dedication you Americans have to the sport. There is no wrestling team in Québecois high schools.

silly canadians. judo is a good substitute, i mean throwing someone in judo feels just as good as taking someone down in wrestling. and america has no where near the same amount of dedication to russians. ha.

Judo season is up again!
Next summer I'm not sitting on my bacon for all of it. I literally puked during newaza (I heaved water, bile and gastric acid in the sink, not very pleasant). My conditioning is very apparently much worse than when I left.
